What started as a silly daily sketch became a 2 week long personal project all because I thought it would look funny if animated.
Illustration, animation, and music remix done by me.
Work in progress

First pass digital sketch

First pass colour, lighting, and crowd

Refined/cleaned main elements, new crowd, more colour

Final piece
There was a clear concept in my head: Shrek's pain brings his rabid fans pleasure. I started with the core focal point of Shrek and the main three fans at the base. Then it took a couple passes for me to layout the crowd. The first version felt very flat. The scene elements felt small and space was massive. I ended up building a pyramid shape that felt more crowded as well. The eyes of the crowd and their body are pointing towards the main action.
Sketches

The original sketch
Always start with a sketch. Pencil and paper is the fastest way to get your ideas from an abstract thought in your head to a real, visual experience.
